When a root canal is performed, the space inside the tooth (pulp chamber) is drilled into, where the nerve is located, and using tiny files, the nerve and any infected tissue is removed from the tooth. Once the dentist is confident the tooth was cleaned out, the inside of the tooth will be sealed.
