Brooklyn NY Dentures Dentists
If you have lost all of your natural teeth due to periodontal disease, tooth decay, and injury, you can be a candidate for dentures. Without teeth in your mouth, things you normally take for granted like speaking, eating or smiling become nearly impossible. Your face will sag and give you a much older appearance. Advanced Dentistry & Implantology can help you regain this part of your life again.
Full dentures have a flesh colored base which fit over your gums. The base of the upper denture covers the roof of your mouth. The lower dentured is horseshoe shaped to accommodate your tongue. There are three kinds of dentures, which are custom-made in a dental laboratory from impressions that were taken of your mouth.
Conventional full denture:
This is placed into our mouth after any remaining teeth are removed and the tissues are fully healed. During this healing time, you will be without teeth.
Immediate full denture:
This is inserted into your mouth immediately after your remaining teeth have been removed. During a prior visit the dentist would have taken measurements and made models of your jaw. Immediate dentures offer the benefit of never being without your teeth, yet they must be relined several months after being inserted, due to the bone reshaping that supports your teeth. This can cause the denture to become loose.
Partial denture:
Rests on a metal framework attaching to your natural teeth. Sometimes crowns are placed on your natural teeth to serve as support anchors for the partial denture. Partial dentures are removable, where bridges, for example, are not.
For many patients, however the lower denture is difficult to wear. The solution to this can be implants which will hold the lower denture more securely.
